The car drivers will feel this as a very good news. Infact its so diificult to use a mobile while driving. But many important issues may be delayed.  A new generation of computerised dashboard devices that will bring Internet access to the driver’s seat are about to be unveiled. The Wi-Fi-enabled gadgets, which are being developed by technology companies such as Intel and Google in conjunction with car manufacturers, will allow drivers to compose voice-activated e-mails on the move, call up restaurant reviews as they reach their destination and use 3D maps to navigate while their passengers watch movies. The devices will go on display at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. However, motoring organisations have warned the so-called “infotainment” systems will distract drivers and increase the risk of accidents.  Duncan Vernon, from the road safety team at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, acknowledged that sat-nav systems could help motorists, but warned that too much gadgetry was dangerous. Neil Greig, director of policy and research for the Institute of Advanced Motoring, said: “The impact of these devices on driving standards has not been sufficiently examined. Therefore it must be a basic requirement that the new interactive technology only works when cars are stationary.”

A Bad news for the yougsters and the students about recession. Unemployment rates will likely peak in most U.S. cities in 2010, but it will be many more years before jobless rates hit their lows of the last decade, a report released by a U.S. mayors group shows. In some areas, such as California’s central valley and cities in Nevada, unemployment rates will stay at or above 10 percent through 2013, according to the report published on Wednesday by the U.S. Conference of Mayors and research group Global Insight. The mayors group released the report a day ahead of a meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama in which it will seek federal financial aid for small and large cities.  The national unemployment rate currently stands at 10 percent. The mayors will push the president to put direct fiscal relief for cities in the budget he is set to propose next month. They will also press for money banks are repaying to the federal Troubled Asset Relief Program to go to help small businesses.  Tensions emerged when the $787 billion economic stimulus plan passed a year ago sent aid to cities through states. Now, local government groups are asking Obama to find new formulas to put money directly in their hands.

In November, the last month for which city-wide data is available, 17 metropolitan areas had unemployment rates topping 15 percent, according to the Labor Department. According to Global Insight, metropolitan areas account for 86 percent of U.S. employment and 90 percent of its economic output. While cities such as the manufacturing centers in the Midwest will soldier on with steep jobless rates for the next half-decade, many areas will see their rates fall below 5 percent.  The mid-Atlantic region, which includes the nation’s capital of Washington, D.C., will likely have an unemployment rate of 4.3 percent by the end of 2013, according to the report. Boulder, Colorado, will have a slightly higher rate of 4.7 percent, followed by Honolulu, Hawaii at 5 percent. The report also analyzed real gross metro product growth and found cities are still smarting from the national recession that began in 2007. Baton Rouge had the largest economic expansion in 2009, but it was a slim 0.8 percent. Only eight metropolitan areas experienced any growth last year. Global Insight projects the U.S. government’s stimulus plan added about 0.8 of a percentage point to 2009 national gross domestic product growth and will add 1.3 percentage points to 2010 growth.

Sony has launched its new mobile model. Sony Ericsson has decided to put the two Walkman and Cybershot brands together in the new Satio. This means an industry-leading camera, a full range of multimedia playback options and it’s based on Symbian S60 5th edition to boot. The overall feel of the handset is odd. Thanks to the sheer range of camera-related gadgetry on board the rear of the phone has a massive camera section bolted to the back, which makes it a little chunky. There is a front facing video camera on there too for all that video calling fun everyone has these days, but it’s down the sides of the phone where the button frenzy really begins. On the left-hand side is the slider for unlocking the phone (which is in just about the right place for most hands), the standard Sony Ericsson port for USB connection, charging and headphone connection (boo!). Below that lives the microSD slot, which is covered by a nice hinged flap. Over on the right side of the phone we get the camera controls, with the zoom buttons doubling as the volume up/down keys, despite having the ‘proper’ zoom icons on.The Satio is being tipped as a multimedia device, and to that end the box is filled with audio and visual goodies. We’ve already pointed out how very, very disappointed we are there’s no 3.5mm headphone jack on the Satio, but Sony Ericsson has tried to temper that problem with a variety of headphone options in the box.
